Gentle Passage
Written by Paul Elliott with Ed Joswick
Directed by Paul Messinger

Anna is a no-nonsense psychologist going for tenure, but to be granted tenure she must be published. Spearheading an ADHDresearch program was going to be her way to success. But due to her abrasive personality, she is removed from that project and put on a small Alzheimer's research program, testing the effects of a new drug. Her job is to interview patients and measure their cognitive powers. It's a real step down for her and she hates everything about the project until she meets Joseph, an argumentative, sixty-five year old gay man, who isn't yet ready to die. Journeying back into his past and what he's had to endure to just survive, forces Anna to finally step out of her own limiting universe to care for someone other than herself, but it may already be too late for both of them.

The Annual Meeting for the American Society of Lone Fishermen Who Have Found Dead Bodies
Written by TS Cook
Directed by TS Cook and Paul Messinger
Starring TS Cook and Paul Messinger (rotating)

Meet The Angler...performed alternately by T.S. Cook and Paul Messinger. In the course of a 68-minute cruise, the Angler will hook, fight and wrestle fish into the boat, tell some salty jokes, play tag with a Coast Guard cutter, recall near disasters and intense situations, reflect on life, and have an unanticipated cathartic experience. This is not an actor sitting on a stool. This is a solo show in which shit happens. Grab your life vest and come along.

Location: Artworks Theater
Performances: 6/7 @ 8:00 PM, 6/14 @ 8:00 PM, 6/16 @ 8:00 PM, 6/17 @ 4:00 PM, 6/21 @ 8:00 PM, 6/23 @ 6:00 PM

Flesh Eating Tiger
Written by Amy Tofte
Directed by Amy Tofte

Vicious dark humor chronicles an affair under the influence in this Los Angeles premiere from writer/director Amy Tofte. He struggles with sobriety, She's dependent on his affection. Scenes unravel with varying degrees of realism, absurdism and symbolism with some moments completely improvised. The line between acting in the play and what's really happening between these two people is relentlessly blurred, just as addiction blurs a healthy relationship. We wouldn't do these horrible things if they weren't so much fun.

Location: The Underground Theatre
Performances: 6/10 @ 8:30 PM, 6/16 @ 7:00 PM, 6/18 @ 8:30 PM, 6/23 @ 7:00 PM

Ongoing Events:

MONDAY NIGHTS

Every Monday at 7:30 pm, Fierce Backbone runs a play development workshop at our home at ArtWorks, 6567 Santa Monica Blvd. These workshops are the anchor of our process for nurturing new plays. Writers can bring in scenes, one acts, or even full plays in various stages of development, and then there is a constructive feedback period moderated by the head of our Writers Unit. Actors are cast beforehand, so often actors get to read a different part every week. Directors are invited to begin working with pieces that are getting closer to being ready for performance.

The workshops are fun, energetic, and highly informative to what Fierce Backbone is all about. Guest are always welcome!
