Kenneth Grahame, Secretary of the Bank of England and gentleman author, is trapped in a decade-long writers’ block and spectacularly dysfunctional marriage to England’s worst poetess. He creates a series of bedtime stories for their disturbed son, about a naughty Mister Toad and his river bank friends. The animals, however, have wills and lives of their own. About David Seidler DAVID SEIDLER was born in London, grew up on Long Island. Miseducated at Cornell U and the U of Washington. Served in the Signal Corps with total lack of distinction. Became Playwright In Residence (and Property Master!) at the San Francisco Actors’ Workshop. Wore sharp suits and drank multiple-martini lunches on Mad Ave. Wrote dubbing scripts for Godzilla The Monster movies. Became Political Advisor to Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara of Fiji. Bleated during an extended yet pleasant exile in New Zealand. Has enjoyed a long career in Hollywood, with twenty titles to his name, including “Tucker: The Man And His Dream” directed by Francis Coppola and starring Jeff Bridges. Nominated three times for WGA writing achievement awards, with one win. His new film “The King’s Speech”, directed by Tom Hooper, starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pierce, and a Who’s Who of British cinema opens on November 26, 2010. A production of the stage play by the same name is scheduled for Broadway this Fall.

We understand that true development takes time, resources and a commitment to the creative process outside the pressure of producing live theater. We provide the environment for our writers to develop and mature their material through readings, scene work, improvisations, staged readings and workshop productions.
The Fierce Backbone Staged Reading Series & Workshop Productions There are four plays in our 2010 Spring/Summer Staged Reading Series. Our first Staged Reading was Exit Laughing by Paul Elliott, which had 2 sold out performances May 7th & 8th. Our second Staged Reading was Osama Been Laughing by Jeremy Keohoe, which just completed performances on May 23rd & 24th. In 2009 we put up two workshop productions: the first, Cleo's Girls by Jan O'Connor, had a successful run of 6 performances in September 2009 at The Lex in Hollywood. Our second workshop production, Everything But by T.S. Cook, had a sold out run of 6 performances in December 2009 at The Secret Rose Theater in North Hollywood.
